Dynamics of Structures With MATLAB Applications

October 15, 2021 admin 0
There are many situations in real life when a structure is subjected to vibrations caused by dynamic loads due to machines, road traffic, rail traffic or air traffic, wind, earthquake, blast loading, sea waves, or tsunami. The movement of pedestrians may cause vibrations in a floor of a building and in a suspension bridge. The term dynamic loads include any loading which varies with time. The manner in which a structure responds to a given dynamic excitation depends upon the nature of excitation and the dynamic characteristics of the structure, that is, the manner in which it stores and dissipates energy. The energy is stored in the form of potential energy and is dissipated in the form of kinetic energy through vibrations. Some of these loads could lead to catastrophic loss to lives and properties in a very short span of time while others cause irritation to the users of the facility.

Construction Project Management Planning, Scheduling and Controlling

October 15, 2021 admin 0
Construction Project Management, in its present form, is the end product of my over 25 years of experience at a senior level of planning and managing major construction projects, both in India and the Middle East; and imparting instructions on the subject to practicing professionals, engineers, and engineering students. Project is a mission, undertaken to create a unique facility, product, or service within the specified scope, quality, time, and costs. With the emerging global opportunities, projects cross geographical boundaries, corporate channels, traditional systems, and cultural diversities. The knowledge areas needed to manage such projects comprise project management techniques, general management practices, and technology-related subjects. The project management techniques of planning, scheduling, and controlling are the tools and devices that bind the subject’s knowledge areas. These techniques can be applied to all types of projects. This book covers its application in the field of construction.

Plates and Shells Theory and Analysis

October 15, 2021 admin 0
The subject matter of the text is usually covered in one-semester senior and one-semester graduate-level courses dealing with the analysis of beams, plates and shells, stress analysis, pressure vessels, analysis of thin-walled structures, advanced statics, or special topics in solid and structural mechanics. As sufficient material is provided for a full year of study, this book may stimulate the development of courses in advanced engineering design. The coverage presumes knowledge of the elementary mechanics of materials. The text is intended to serve a twofold purpose: to complement classroom lectures and to accommodate the needs of practicing engineers in the analysis of beam, plate, and shell structures.

Principles of Reinforced Concrete

The courses “Theory of Reinforced Concrete Structures” [1-1] and “Strength and Constitutive Relation of Concrete” [1-2] were started in the early 1980s for the post-graduate students in structural engineering and related fields in Tsinghua University. The lectures, and the syllabus, and the contents of both courses are varied during the teaching practice. Two courses are composed and named “Principles of Reinforced Concrete” in the 1990s. The author gave a lecture on this course for several years and wrote the textbook of the same name [1-3], based on the teaching draft. After the book was published in 1999, it is also adopted as the textbook or main reference for similar courses of both post- and under-graduates of many universities in China. And, it is helpful as well for the university lecturers. In addition, some- times the book is used by structural engineers during their scientific or technical work.

Industrial Project Management: Planning, Design, and Construction

October 15, 2021 admin 0
Projects and multi-project programs are vital to all business, industrial, and governmental organizations. They are the vehicles for achieving the strategic goals of every complex organization. How to best manage these projects and programs has been the subject of hundreds of books, articles, conferences, and seminars over the past several decades. This book presents a unique view of project management from the total company viewpoint based on successful experience within a large Italian corporation with global operations.

Practical Project Management: Tips, Tactics and Tools

October 15, 2021 admin 0
Project Management has often been called the “accidental profession.” That designation has come about due to the preponderance of PM practitioners who have found their way to this field, not through a structured education or career strategy, but rather as a side trip from their planned careers. My side trip has lasted some 40 years and, thanks to many whom I have met along the way, the side trip has become a journey of discovery and fulfillment. This book records much of what I have learned and disseminated during that trip. Therefore, it is only fair that I express my gratitude not only to the direct contributors to this material, but also to those who helped to pave the way.

Structural Foundations Manual for Low-Rise Buildings

October 15, 2021 admin 0
This book provides practical and buildable solutions for the design of foundations for housing and other low-rise buildings, especially those on abnormal or poor ground. A wealth of expert information and advice is brought together dealing with the key aspects a designer must consider in order to achieve effective and economic foundation designs. This second edition of the Structural Foundations Manual for Low-Rise Buildings has been completely updated in line with the new government guidelines on contaminated land and brown-field sites.

Multi‐storey Precast Concrete Framed Structures

October 15, 2021 admin 0
Of all the major forms of multi-story building construction, structural precast concrete is perhaps
understood by the fewest practitioners. This is a significant ‘blind spot’ in that part of the building
profession associated with the design and construction of large or small multi-storey precast and
prestressed concrete frames. This is due mainly to two particular factors:
 The notion of using a modular form of construction, such as precast concrete, is not widely taught
at the undergraduate level because it is thought of as being too restrictive in the wider application of
theory and design instruction.
 Precast concrete design is usually carried out in-house by a small number of specialist engineers
employed by the precast manufacturing companies.

Geotechnical Engineering Investigation Handbook

October 15, 2021 admin 0
Geotechnical engineering is a branch of civil engineering that concerns the study of the interrelationship between the geologic environment and the work done by humankind. Soil mechanics and rock mechanics are fields in which the mathematical aspects of analysis for the design of engineering works are defined and described as they relate to the geologic environment. Projects involving excavations in rock bear a close relationship to mining engineering. The basis on which the knowledge structure of geotechnical engineering is built is a thorough comprehension of the elements of the geologic environment. In reality, therefore, geotechnical engineering consists of two major, but separate, disciplines: geology and civil engineering.

Advanced Mechanics of Composite Materials and Structures

October 15, 2021 admin 0
This book is concerned with describing, analyzing, and discussing topical problems in the mechanics of advanced composite materials and structures whose mechanical properties are controlled by high-strength and/or high-stiffness continuous fibers embedded in a polymeric, metal, or ceramic matrix. Although the idea of combining two or more components to produce materials with controlled properties have been known and used from time immemorial, modern composites have been developed only over the last five or six decades and now have widespread applications in many different fields of engineering, but are of particular importance in aerospace structures for which high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios are required.
